The Dodo said the best way to explain a caucus race was to do it.  Have a caucus race!  Follow the instructions in the story.  Award prizes at the end. :-)

Lewis Carroll was making fun of real caucus races that politicians "run in" to get elected.  Talk about political caucus races and how the author was comparing them to the race in the story.
