The Spirit of Giving

In the beginning of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, the character Scrooge is visited by two men who were collecting donations for the poor. He turns them away.

Then the ghost of Scrooge's dead business partner, Marley, haunts him to explain that is is everyone's duty to help other people.

Find out about the spirit of giving in your own community.

1. What holiday activities are being developed and implemented for the needy in your community?

2. How could/can you participate in these activities?

3. Make a list of organizations in your community that provide social service or financial aid. Put this list in alphabetical order, along with the agency's phone number and donate it to your local library, church, synagogue, school, etc., for others to have access to.
