The Winter Solstice

The winter solstice usually comes on December 21st or 22nd. It marks the beginning of winter and is the shortest day of the year. Here are some activities to study this day.

The winter solstice is when the Earth is tilted on its axis so the North Pole is slanted away from the sun. Long ago, people lit fires on the winter solstice to entice the sun to return.
