Fun Food: Creamy Coolers

This is a very easy recipe to use with children to introduce them to working in the kitchen. They can measure, mix, stir, etc. Its also relatively easy to clean up. The conclusion of course is a tasty treat that you can do over and over again with various flavors and flavor combinations.

1/2 cup sugar
1 envelope unsweetened soft drink mix, any flavor
vanilla ice cream

1. Stir together the sugar and the fruit-flavored drink mix. Store in a tightly covered container until you are ready to use. You may also substitute pre-sweetened drink mixes and not adding any sugar or by substituting processed sugar with some other artificial sweetener.

2. For one serving, in a blender container combine 1 cup of milk, 1 small scoop of vanilla ice cream, and 1 to 2 tablespoons of the soft drink mixture. Cover and blend till smooth. Pour into a glass. Makes one 12 ounce serving.

3. For 4 to 6 servings, in a blender container combine 2 cups of milk, 4 to 6 small scoops of vanilla ice cream, and 1/3 to 1/2 cup of the soft drink mixture. Cover and blend until smooth.

You can try alternating the flavor of drink mix you use and/or the flavor ice cream you use. You might also like to try using a sherbet or sorbet in place of the ice cream.
